Рассматриваются основные аспекты развития иудаизма еврейскими иммигрантами на территории США. Каждая волна иммиграции создавала собственные религиозные институты, которые в дальнейшем стали отличительными особенностями американского еврейства. К началу XX в. иудаизм в США включал в себя три организационно оформленных течения - реформистское, ортодоксальное и консервативное, различающихся как в теологическом плане, так и в социальной и этнической принадлежности своих приверженцев. Различия между течениями первоначально провоцировали конфликт между двумя еврейскими общинами - новой, «этнической», и более старой, «ассимилированной». Однако со временем еврейские общины сумели приспособиться друг к другу.
