Настоящая статья, построенная на материалах многолетних полевых исследований автора, проводившихся в Сицилии и посвященных проблеме взаимоотношений мигрантов с местным населением и высокому уровню толерантности последнего, рассматривает современное состояние этих взаимоотношений в регионе, который до недавнего времени был «оазисом гостеприимства» и едва ли не «землей обетованной» для иммигрантов. В частности, анализу подвергаются наметившиеся в последние годы настроения представителей различных социальных и культурных слоев локального социума, в котором продолжающийся рост числа мигрантов и высокий уровень их ассимиляции начинают вызывать опасения утратить «принимающей стороной» свою этнокультурную специфику и идентичность. Показано, что эти настроения разделяет и часть мигрантов, проживающих в Сицилии а именно аккультурированная страта «пришлых» с давним стажем пребывания в регионе, позиционирующая себя как «местные» и ассоциирующая себя с сицилийцами.
