The method of optimal partitioning of subscriber messages into protocol data units by the transport layer according to the criterion of delays in the multi-hop transmission path is proposed. The terms of the appropriateness of the fragmentation of messages into packets during its transmission over multi-hop virtual channel are obtained. Analytical dependences for the optimal packet size from the structure of network traffic and settings of the virtual connections are obtained.
