Description: This paper examines the notions of derivation and derivational affixes in Modern Standard Chinese. The aim of this study is to analyze the cases of medical terms, having the morpheme 术 (shù) as the right-hand constituent for subsequent conclusion whether 术 (shù) is a derivational affix. Although, the results of the study show that the morpheme 术 (shù) is not a derivational affix, it, however, has signs of the ongoing process of grammaticalization and can be an element of another type of morphological relations, since it has a fixed position in the complex word and it is a part of a recurrent word formation schema.
