Впервые анализируется восприятие обычаев и традиций провинциальной английской жизни известным русским переводчиком Д.Е. Мином, осуществившим во второй половине 1850-х гг. интерпретацию отдельных фрагментов поэмы Джорджа Крабба «Приходские списки» («The Parish Register», 1807). Мин практически полностью подчинил свою деятельность задаче максимально скрупулезного и точного воссоздания особенностей английского оригинала, что дало возможность судить как о значительных достоинствах произведения Крабба, так и о его недостатках, прежде всего, излишней склонности английского автора к наставительности и морализаторству.
