Various interpretations of the concept of digital literacy, derived from the new digital “culture of participation” (G. Jenkins), as pragmatic competencies of functional use of digital technologies and as cognitive skills of adequate understanding and critical selection of information (B. Chan) are described in the preamble of the article. Russian research projects dedicated to the measurement and monitoring of digital literacy among Russians are analyzed. The article critically analyzes several works by digital anthropologists, marking the new requirements of the digital environment of social networks to the competence of users as a response to changes in the virtual infrastructure of communication. The ideas of rationalization and control of interpersonal and business communications under the influence of social media (van Dijk, N. Baym) and the concept of polymedia as an information infrastructure of relations (M. Madianou and D. Miller) are emphasized. As a result, a new conceptualization of social network digital literacy as an element of network digital culture is proposed. Based on assessments and opinions of the digital generation representatives, identified as a result of a series of field studies, the content of the complex of information and media, self-presentation, affiliation, linguistic and security competencies, forming a social network digital literacy is described. The article ends with a discussion of the prospects of inclusion of the concept of social network digital literacy in general digital literacy and its operationalization for monitoring among students.
