With the beginning of the third decade of the 21st century, we can state that a new era that has not yet found a clear definition (information era, knowledge society, post-industrial era, etc.) is prioritizing the study of once-marginal subjects and approaches to their study. In particular, cities are becoming an independent subject of research of a whole group of sciences, including political ones. Universities are considered as economic and social entities on an equal basis with (and prior to) industrial enterprises and companies. The «network» opens up more research opportunities than the ideologically determined «system». Constructivism as an approach becomes heuristically useful and effective in the rapidly changing world of knowledge and phenomena. In this regard, the article includes both a characterization of the old paradigm and new opportunities and models for applying the political-constructivist approach in studying (and modeling) the city on the frontier line.
